The Future Rights of Abortion in America, law panel presentation, took place on March 27, 2007 in the Woolley Room (DTAV/Patch-Community Center) from 4pm-6pm at the University of Maine. This event was open to the public.

This panel was intended to educate, incite interest, and spur thoughtful discussion on the topic. Panelists include Phil Worden, practicing attorney with experience in reproductive law, Nancy Foss, reproductive rights activist on the national level from the Abortion Access Project; and Ruth L. Lockhart, Executive Director of Mabel Wadsworth Women's Health Center, an independent women's health center in Maine. Sharon Barker, Director of the Women's Resource Center at the University of Maine, will be moderating the event.
Panelists:
Ruth L. Lockhart: Ruth Lockhart is the executive director and co-founder of Mabel Wadsworth Center in Bangor. The Mabel Wadsworth Center was incorporated in 1984 and is the only private, non-profit, independent women's health center in Maine and one of only 14 in the nation. Ruth has nearly 30 years of experience in the field of women's reproductive and sexual health care, and has been Mabel Wadsworth Center's executive director since it first opened for clinical services in 1992.
Nancy A. Foss: Nancy Foss is a consultant to the New Abortion Provider Training Initiative, a project in Cambridge, MA. Nancy also provides training's for the Gynecological Teaching Associates program at Maine Medical Center and works in a private gynecological practice in Portland. Since graduating from USM in 1987, Nancy has managed a wide variety of advocacy and educational projects focused on women's health issues for both private medical practices and non-profit organizations. She continues to research and write about the role of abortion in women's lives.
Philip Worden, Esq.: Philip Worden is legal counsel for Mabel Wadsworth Women's Health Center in Bangor, Maine. Phil graduated magna cum laude from Boston University Law School in 1980. He is co-founder and attorney to the Mabel Wadsworth Women's Health Center. He was the appellate advocate for prosecutorial district 5 (Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties) from 1986 to 1990 and counsel to Womencare in Dover-Foxcroft. He taught Administrative Law at the University of Maine, Orono. He also represents the Maine Global Action Network; Let Cuba Live; civil disobedience protestors against the Iraq war in the sit-in at the Bangor federal building, both sit-ins at Senator Snowe's Bangor office, and the breakaway march in Augusta.

Sharon Barker: Sharon Barker is the Chair of the Board of Mabel Wadsworth Women's Health Center in Bangor, Maine, as well as a co-founder of the Center. She is also the Director of the University of Maine's Women's Resource Center, and has been since its inception in 1991. Among other awards and recognitions, Sharon is a recipient of the Sarah Orne Jewett Award (2004) and the Mabel Sine Wadsworth Women's Health Achievement Award (1997). She also participates in many community boards and advisory groups. For instance, she chairs both the Maine Komen Foundation Grants Review Committee and the Women's Employment Issues Committee for the Maine Jobs Council.

Turn right at end of exit ramp. Drive 1 mile to the
red flashing light.
Take left onto Route 2. Drive 2.5 miles to the third
set of traffic lights.
Vere right onto Park Street.
Turn left onto Rangely Road (University of
Maine enterance)
Continue down Rangely, Straight past the Police
station, DTAV Community Center is on the left
across from the University Credit Union.
